In a league that has become league split into the top 2 and the rest of the league, fans yearn for title races past where fans look forward to biting their nails on the final day. Spurs’s surprise result has such fans dreaming again Tottenham completes a rare double over the reigning champions with this win. Some people will say it was a smash and grab win but I don’t see it that way. Well orchestrated game plan from the under fire Spurs boss Antonio Conte. Number one, the first thing Spurs did was to play to their strengths not the strengths of the Cityzens. Although it is near impossible to beat City on possession, utilizing the counter attacking ability of Son and Kane was the key. Kane drops deep like a midfielder, finds Son with the one defense splitting pass. Great first goal but how aweful was that City back 4 in trapping the attackers offside? Both for the first and the winning goal. Pep doesn’t get a lot of criticism and deservedly so, City been magnificent this season. But failure to drill his back 4 could cost him this season’s league titles. Other than that City were threatening in attack. Gundogan was brilliant with his typical late runs into the box. Mahrez and Sterling were ever so threatening from the wings.

The Spurs win masks a lot of issues with Conte’s squad. The first being the goalkeeper. It is funny that the world cup winner Lloris is subject to scrutiny after spending over a decade as the Spurs undisputed number one. He is making rudimentary errors but there is just not great cover for him from the bench so he is likely to be playing a lot in the future. Bentacur and Pierre Emile did not do a particularly good job holding possession to relieve pressure on the back 4, which is important when playing against a Pep side. With that win Spurs hots up the race for the top 4. City ,who were seemingly cruising to yet another title after a long unbeaten run are now looking behind them with Liverpool just 6 points behind with a game in hand. Now, Liverpool are in an unbeaten run of their own wil fancy their title chances now.
