This is the festive season the busiest part of the premier league calendar. Two teams who have found form at the right time to make a push towards safety and champions league soccer next season are the Saints and Spurs. Two attack minded gaffers clashing in Conte and Hasenhuttl. Spurs unbeaten under the Italian since he took over and he has them believing again especially talisman Kane. The intensity is a notch up from the Nuno period and it is no surprise they started this one with confidence. However Southampton’s most skillful player Ward Prowse caught them cold from another set piece. This time not from a free kick or penalty. A simple as you like throw in not defended properly by Spurs. This one of just two shots on target from Southampton. No closing down from the static Spurs defense.
In regards to the penalty award against Salisu for the foul on Son, I wonder why the Ghanaian felt confident he could get the ball from the position he was in. Delle Alli is enjoying a fine run in the Spurs team under Conte after his career stalled under Nuno and Jose. Conte’s 3-4-3 suits him as the deep lying forward like he was under Poch. Nuno and Jose favored a 5-3-2 conservative formation which left no room for him. From the equalizer, it was all hands on deck for the saints. Another player enjoying a renaissance under the new coach, Harry Winks played a sublime pass to Kane for what looked like the equalizer. The lines of the VAR ref said otherwise. Then another one this time a fouled called on the Saints keeper by Doherty. It was more of Forster barging into the Irishman than the reverse from where I am seating. Spurs can count themselves unfortunate not to get the win here.
