Two rumbles in north London over Saturday and Sunday. First one was the unified world heavyweight title bout between British-Nigerian Joshua and Ukrainian USYK. Sunday will see bitter soccer rivals Arsenal and Spurs lock horns. But this bout produced an upset st Tottenham’ New White Hart Lane. Joshua’s cautious approach questionable. Usyk rising to the occasion. The background of the fight was that Joshua was supposed to fight Tyson Fury last summer but the fight didn’t pan out. So he had to choose an opponent for a mandatory defense, which is Usyk who is a former cruiserweight champ. Easy fight? Not on your life.

Round two was a real statement of intent from the Ukrainian. Check out the quick hands and footwork. Anthony probably anticipated a long fight was too careful in the opening 3 rounds for my liking, after all he had the height and reach advantage. Round 4 was Joshua’s best, he smartened up and began to land punches in the torso area of Usyk. If there was a round that swayed the fight in Usyk’s favor it’s round 12. What a way to end the bout, the color combination rocked Joshua onto the ropes. The bell sounding to end the bout must have been music to Anthony’s ears. The left jab from Usyk doing a lot of damage in this match. When veteran announcer Michael Buffer announced the winner, few in the stadium can dispute that the best fighter won. Aleksandr Usyk the new heavyweight champ by unanimous points decision.
