Croatia were the fairy tail story of Russia 2018 with their strong organizational play. They would be a big miss in Qatar 2022 if they fail to navigate Group H which in my opinion is the toughest in UEFA qualifying. Vying for top spot are Russia,(who lead the group), Slovakia and fellow Balkan country Slovenia, Cyprus and Malta with the number 1 to 6 in the group separated by 6 points. In my play of the week this week one of Croatia’s stars from Russia 2018 Brozovic saved his country from a damaging draw with a volley out of the top drawer with only 4 minutes of the 90 to go. The initial free kick was well defended by the Slovakians who clearly had the the height advantage to deal with it. Now, freeze the frame just when the Inter Milan midfielder is about to pull the trigger. Check out the circle of white shirts in the box, don’t know if it was intentional or not but it proved to be bad for Slovakia. It blocked the view of their keeper Rodak, who was beaten hands down as he saw the ball very late. Brozovic deserves credit for keeping an eye on the ball and keeping his shot down. Croatia now level at the top with Russia with the 2018 hosts having the superior goal difference.
