The “lesser” green jersey was up for grabs at the Vuelta Stage 8. Whilst the yellow jersey is the main title to go for, winning the sprint green is also something to admire. Fabio Jakobsen seized the green on a day for the sprinters which also gives much needed respite for the leading GC guys. The wind was a factor too but an interesting feature of the course asphalt road was the split with 5km to go. Sensible riding with some going to the right not crowding the space in the left road. Lessons were clearly learnt after the stage 6 crash. Roglic safely positioned to retain his yellow jersey. Mountain stage 9 will provide a test for the Slovenian’s GC lead. But stage 8 belonged to Jakobsen who decided to forgot the intermediate sprints to go for the win over his rival Philipsen. Whether it was tactical or it was more of him avoiding another defeat in the intermediates I don’t know🤷. But it worked a charm pipping Dainese into first place.
