Joao Almeida still in poll position overall at the Tour De Pologne after the longest stage of the Tour which happened to be 226km. The 7 major climbs of the course favored the mountaineers with Colombian Fernando Gaviria duly obliging. He won the race outsprinting young Dutchmen Olav Kooij at the death although Olav ran a good strategic race but only ran out of steam in the final few meters. What tactic should I have chosen had I rode this race? Check out the clip with 75km to go on the right side of the screen(peloton). Sitting up on the climb is not a wise move especially on a less steep climb like that one as you expend more energy unnecessarily. A great example is set by the riders here, they are sitting and their aerodynamic play is on point. Aerodynamics points out that by sitting you reduce direct wind friction with your body as well as particles in the air pressing against the skin(believe it or not it shaves some milliseconds off your time). It was anybody’s race seeing the number of riders in the last few meters of the race.Diego Ulissi of Italy is second overall followed by Slovenia’s Matej Mohoric who rode a great race but faded later on.
