Al Ahly booked yet another place at this year’s club world cup with a 3-0 shellacking of Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa on Saturday night in Casablanca Morocco. This is their 10th African Champions League crown making the Egyptian side the “Real Madrid of Africa” if you like comparing things a lot. My play of the week is their second goal by Mahomed Afsha. Al Ahly are a team which has always had team world as their strength rather than individuals. I love the unselfishness of Afsha’s fellow attacker in just laying the ball for him. If you freeze the clip at that moment you will see that Afsha had virtually 5% of the goal to aim (the right side that is)at with both Akpeyi the Chiefs goalie and the two defenders covering that portion. The confidence to shoot at that part of the goal won me over in this play, when all common sense tells you you should shoot to the right hand side of the keeper’s goal. The fact that Chiefs were a man down after the first half red card made zero difference here, it was two against two by the way.
