Defending Copa champs Brazil reached the FINAL of the Copa with a Lucas Paqueta 35th minute goal. Some interesting plays on show in this one even though there was a single goal for the whole encounter. Check out the Brazilian free kick on 12 minutes by Casemiro. After the goalkeeper for Peru Gallese parries the ball there is a chance for the Brazilian attacker to tap home as the Peru defenders completely misses the ball. Neymar operated from the wing with Richarlison leading the attack which worked very well as the two combined brilliantly. Gallese had a great game in the Peru goal headlined by a double save on 19th minute from Neymar and Richarlison. Neymar is known for being a little selfish at times but in creating the goal he deserves a pat on the back for the vision to locate Lucas.
This was a knockout quarterfinal match and sitting and defending wouldn’t have helped Peru one tiny bit. They went on the attack almost immediately from half time break testing Man City keeper Ederson more with Benevento striker Lapadula the main threat. From watching Ederson for a while in the premier league I got to see some of his weaknesses. He is obviously good with the ball to his feet and one on one with the striker but he is very average from crosses and with bodies in the box during free kicks. A better header of the ball would have gobbled up the chance Peru had on 81 minutes. It was not pretty but Brazil making it to the final ,will wait the winner of the Argentina and Colombia semi. I know you are crying out for a Brazil-Argentina final but don’t count out the plucky Colombians.
