Dutchman Van Der Poel conquering the flat plains of Neuhasen to Lachen,178km with 2 climbs at the end. Germany’s Schachmann finishing second between Van Der Poel and another Dutchman Woet Poels on the podium. Sun was up at the beginning followed by intermittent rain making the road surface tricky for the riders. Watch the clip around the 66 km mark. There were refreshments and drinks just before the first major climbs. What is in those drinks or eats? I do not doubt that its mostly natural and legal. Well there are various substances banned by the UCI , cycling ruling body. These are EPO, Anabolic steroids, stimulants and Growth hormones among others. One substance that will surprise you as to its banned status is caffeine. Up until 2004 it was an illegal substance when taken in excess as it acts as a stimulant. It has since been legalized but it doesn’t sit well with members of the cycling fraternity. Some argue that it increases performance which is unfair to competition. Jury is still out on that one.

Swiss pair of Bohli and Imhof gave it a go on the 31 km mark but soon faded. Strong finish from Van Der Poel.Stefan Kung still hold on to the overall lead.
