Simon Yates went for it in the third last stage of the Giro and narrowed Bernal’s lead on the GC. The Briton conquered stage 19 which was 166km long by attacking in stages, at 7km to go and about a kilometer to go. Bernal could not keep up and lost close to a minute on his GC lead. It was Joao Almeida who provided the competition for Yates. I must say the final ascent is tailor made for someone like the BikeExchange rider Yates, a smooth tar road as opposed to the gravel of the earlier stages and narrow roads. Take a close look at the breathing by Yates by looking at his chest area. It was not labored at all , there is a high probability he trained on high altitudes for this one. Caruso who remains second overall was dropped by Bernal to finish fourth, he is some 2minutes 30 seconds from the top.
