Ash Barty showed why she is the world number one with a fighting display against Belarusian number one player Sabalenka. I could not believe Barty made this shot. Watch 2-1 to Sabalenka first set and scores at 15-15. The lob by Sabalenka looked to have won the point for the Belarusian but Barty using the top of the racquet got to the ball, impressive for a not so tall player. That set the tone for Barty to take the first set 6-4 although Aryna was better in the serving department whilst Ash preferred dooking it out in the rallies. It is tennis that you can theoretically win a match without actually breaking your opponents serve, provided you hold your serve and take it to a tie break in two sets. Sabalenka won the second set by tie break. Aryna served admirably, case in point 1-1(30-15). The serve and forehand at the net combination finishing the point nice and clean. Barty was also serving well especially during high pressure games. Of the seven break point opportunities she availed to Aryna, she did not give her a chance to convert a single one. Sabalenka did win the tie break though, her forehand hitting was out of this world. Sabalenka was ultimately undone in the third set.
