This was without a doubt the match of the quarter finals. Zverev losing having played so well will gut the German especially having bagged the first set. Sasha broke Novak in the first first game of the match and raced to a 2-0 lead. He would allow the Djoker back into it. Leading 5-3 on course for the set, Sasha blew set point on Djokovic’s serve at deuce. He would go on to lose his serve in the next game to level the scores at 5-5. Both won a game each to take it to a tie breaker. One mini break was enough for Zverev to win it 8-6.Second set was all Djokovic going up double break to 5-1 with that famous defensive play of his. The Djoker getting back into the match 6-2 in the second.

In the third Zverev was the first to serve. He did that so well pushing Novak off court for the easy hold. Novak was broken next game to go down 0-2 missing a shockingly easy forehand winner in the process. Sasha, tails up 3-0, would let it slip once again. But he didnt hand it to Novak, he had to work for it. At 3-1 up Sasha serving, he had a long deuce game which Novak(poor racquet)lost eventually. Cruising at 4-2 Zverev lost the next four games to lose the set. How did that happen? A simple double fault (one of 5 for Sasha) handing Djokovic the break back at 30-40. It all went downhill from there. Zverev found himself 0-40 on his serve at 4-4, rally finishing on a whimper forehand hits the net ,5-4 Djokovic, serving for the set now. He holds for the loss of one point to take third 6-4. Sasha backs to the wall time now.

Zverev again breaks Djoker in his first service game of the fourth, goes up 2-0. Novak who employs the slice back hand to good effect breaks back at 3-1 .Set goes on serve all the way to another tie breaker. This time there is no joy for the German. A score of 8-6 to Djokovic ,which mirrored the first breaker, sent the Serb to the last four of his favorite Grand Slam. All it took was a mini break. At 6-6 with Zverev serving, Sasha missed the base line with a backhand volley at the net during the rally. Novak served out the match with the last of his 23 Aces , this time down the line.Zverev will be kicking himself for not capitalizing on his 12 break point opportunities as well as consolidating the three breaks that he ultimately got by holding his won serve.
