I watched this Friday night feisty fixture with anticipation of a competitive match. I was disappointed at the one sided manner of the score line. Roma did not play all that badly for large periods of the game. Basically it was 3 moments of mad defending that cost them the points. Lazio, clinical and ruthless in their finishing , where full value for their win. It did not take long for the “home” side to take the lead, 14 minutes to be exact. It all started with a punt from Pepe Reina to set up a counter attack. Roma’s defense did not deal with it decisively. Ciro Immobile pouncing on a loose ball to stroke home a soft as wool goal. There is something about this fixture that brings the silly errors out of Roma. Last year keeper Pau Lopez was at fault for the Lazio equalizer which ultimately cost him his number one shirt.

Sergej’s through pass found Lazarri galloping down the right flank 8 minutes later. When he reached the box he seemed to be brought down by the Roma defender. To his credit he did not stay down and remonstrate with the official. He quickly got up,passed it to Luis Alberto who stroked the ball home past Lopez. To be fair and apply the rules, the goal should have been disallowed for handball by Lazarri when he was on the floor.Lazio were rock solid in defence, did not give Roma a sniff of the goal restricting them to innocuous long range shots. The winning goal came from Luis Alberto, his second of the game. He finished another wave of attack on Roma by guiding the ball past Lopez just inside his left hand post. At full time you could see how much this win means for the blue side of the capital.Lazio, who are struggling to reproduce last season’s form, are now 7th on 31 points 3 points behind Roma who are still third having played an extra game more than the top 2.
